Best Countries to Work as a Kitesurf Instructor in 2026

Max Fischer··

The best countries to work as a kitesurf instructor, by number of openings, are Germany, Italy, Greece and Spain: together they account for 355 of the 582 instructor posts we listed since January 2024. Keep in mind that our data leans toward Europe, where most of the schools we collect from are based.

The countries with the most instructor jobs

The table covers 12 countries, with the main season and how many posts offer accommodation.

Thailand112December to April on the Gulf coast6 (55%)
Mexico103winter and spring6 (60%)
Kenya82December to March and June to September8 (100%)

Three things stand out. Germany has the most posts overall, but Spain matches it on open posts on 22 October 2026, with 18 each, and Greece is close at 17. In every European country in the table, more than half of the posts offer accommodation; in the USA and Australia it is rare. And outside Europe, the numbers are small, so one school can move a country up or down the list.

Summer in Europe, winter in the sun

Most European jobs follow the summer, and our page of summer jobs abroad collects open seasonal jobs across Europe and the Mediterranean. Germany, Greece and Portugal run from May to September. Italy, the Netherlands and mainland Spain run from April to October. The Canary Islands are the exception, with a season all year.

Outside Europe, our country pages list these seasons:

  • Egypt: all year on the Red Sea
  • Brazil: July to January in the northeast (Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte)
  • Cape Verde: November to June
  • South Africa: October to March
  • Thailand: December to April on the Gulf coast
  • Vietnam (Mui Ne): November to April
  • Kenya: December to March and June to September
  • Mauritius: June to September

Combining a European summer with a winter season gives you close to year-round work. Start looking for the winter job while you are still teaching in summer, so you do not lose weeks between the two.

Country by country

Germany

Germany has 124 instructor posts in our data, 18 of them open on 22 October 2026. Before you apply, check the current openings on our page of kitesurf jobs in Germany for the license each school names.

VDWS is named in 59 posts, IKO in 15. German as a language is named in only 18, but many German posts are written in German and do not name it. If you want to work in Germany, learning German widens your options.

Of the 124 German posts, 72 (58%) offer accommodation. Stated pay:

  • €23 per hour at Windloop on the North Sea (May to September 2026)
  • €24 to €36 per hour at Kite School Pro Sylt (2025)
  • €1,500 a month entry salary for a VDWS surf instructor at Northshore Zingst
  • about €1,600 net a month on commission at FLY-A-KITE on Rügen

Italy

Italy has 96 posts, 14 of them open. Languages are mixed: English is named in 60 posts, German in 55 and Italian in 47. VDWS is named in 31, IKO in 15.

Housing is common: 70 posts (73%) offer accommodation. Wing is named in 59 posts (61%), so a wing license helps here. The schools hiring right now are listed on our page of kitesurf jobs in Italy, so you can check what each one asks for.

Stated pay: €20 per hour at KTS Kite Tour Stagnone in Sicily (2025), and €1,000 to €1,200 a month plus food and accommodation at Floripa Kite Surf School in Ispica (2024).

Greece

Greece has 72 posts, 17 of them open. The season runs from May to September with the Meltemi.

A boat license is named in 17 posts (24%), the highest share of any country. If you have one, put it at the top of your application. RYA is named in 8 posts, IKO in 10 and VDWS in 5. French is named in 19, so a second language can matter here.

Of the 72 Greek posts, 45 (63%) offer accommodation. No Greek post in our data states pay, so ask before you sign. Check the current openings on our page of kitesurf jobs in Greece for the license and languages each school names.

Spain

Spain has 63 posts, 18 of them open. The mainland season runs from April to October, and the Canary Islands have work all year. That makes Spain the only European country in the table with a season all year.

English is named in 28 posts and Spanish in 21. Of all 63, 38 (60%) offer accommodation, but read the terms: ION Club Golf de Roses charged €200 a month for the staff house. Ask whether housing is free or deducted from your pay. Our page of kitesurf jobs in Spain lists the open posts.

Portugal and the Netherlands

Portugal has 26 posts, 6 of them open, and the highest accommodation share of any European country in the table: 21 posts (81%). The season runs from May to September with the Nortada. Duotone Pro Center Viana states €24 per hour plus accommodation (2025).

The Netherlands has 22 posts, 6 of them open, with a season from April to October. IKO and VDWS are named about equally often there: IKO in 11 posts, VDWS in 13. Of the 22, 17 (77%) offer accommodation. Stated pay: €25 to €30 per hour at Endless Summer in Amsterdam, up to €30 at LearnKiteboardingNow, and from €22 for a head instructor at BLOW in The Hague.

Outside Europe

The USA (16 posts) and Australia (14 posts) have the highest stated rates in our data: South Florida Kiteboarding pays $40 to $50 per teaching hour. If you compare that with Europe in our kitesurf instructor salary breakdown, keep housing in mind: only 2 of 16 US posts and 2 of 14 Australian posts offer accommodation. You also need the right to work there. The Florida post asks whether you are authorized to work in the US.

Egypt has 14 posts, 11 of them with accommodation, and the season runs all year on the Red Sea. Thailand has 11 posts, with €16 to €26 per hour stated by Accrokite and KITEFLIP. Mexico has 10 posts, with $25 per hour at Kukulkite and Ventaigua.

Kenya is small, with 8 posts, but all 8 offer accommodation. H2O Extreme states €20 to €25 per teaching hour plus a private room.

Who hires the most instructors

A few employers post again and again. These are the five with the most instructor posts since January 2024:

  • ROBINSON: 22 posts, 11 open on 22 October 2026
  • Club Med: 15 posts, 8 open
  • Kite School Pro Sylt: 11 posts
  • Torre Loopa Kite School: 8 posts, 4 open
  • Mark Warner: 8 posts, 7 open

ROBINSON, Club Med and Mark Warner each had 7 or more posts open on 22 October 2026, so they are hiring now. If you are going for your first kitesurf instructor job, employers with several open posts are a good place to start, because they need more than one person.

How we counted

kitesurfOK collects kite and watersports jobs from school career pages, resort operators and job boards such as IKO. The numbers in this article come from the 582 kitesurf instructor posts we listed between 1 January 2024 and 22 October 2026, 140 of which were still open on 22 October 2026. A post counts as offering accommodation when its text mentions accommodation, housing or a staff house. Seasons are the main wind seasons from our country pages; pay figures are quoted as the employers stated them.
