How to Get Your First Kitesurf Instructor Job
To get your first kitesurf instructor job, apply early: in 2025, 100 of the 237 instructor posts we listed went online in December, January or February, months before the summer season starts.
When kite schools hire
The table counts new instructor posts by the month we first saw them in 2025.
| Month (2025) | New instructor posts |
|---|---|
| January | 49 |
| February | 32 |
| March | 23 |
| April | 21 |
| May | 15 |
| June | 12 |
| July | 15 |
| August | 21 |
| September | 13 |
| October | 5 |
| November | 12 |
| December | 19 |
| Total | 237 |
January alone brought 49 posts, 21% of the year. August had a smaller second peak with 21. Between April and July, schools still posted 63, so a late application is not hopeless.
What this means for you: have your CV, photo and riding video ready before December, and send your first applications around the turn of the year. If you miss that window, keep looking through spring and again in late summer.

Share of the 582 kitesurf instructor posts we listed since January 2024.
A license, certificate or qualification is the item posts mention most, in 386 of them. Wing foiling comes next and is mentioned more often than any language.
English appears in 43% of posts and German in 33%. Many German posts are written in German and do not name the language, so German is undercounted here. If you speak German, say so clearly, even if the post does not ask.
A boat license and first aid or lifeguard training show up less often. If you hold either one, put it on your CV anyway. It costs you one line and answers a question before it is asked.
What to send
This is how often the 582 posts mention each item:
- a CV: 204 posts (35%)
- a WhatsApp or Telegram number to apply through: 103 (18%)
- a video, YouTube or Instagram link: 44 (8%)
- a photo: 43 (7%)
- a cover or motivation letter: 14 (2%)
- references: 10 (2%)
Keep your CV to one page and put the facts a school checks first at the top: license and level, logged teaching hours, languages, second sports and the exact dates you can work. Send it as a PDF with your name in the file name.
Add a short riding video. If you have footage of yourself teaching, even a few clips, include it. A clear photo of your face helps the school remember who you are.
Cover letters are rarely mentioned, so keep your message short. Write who you are, which license you hold, which dates you are free and why this school. When a post gives a WhatsApp or Telegram number, send the same short message there and attach your CV.
How to stand out without experience
Two routes show up in the posts for people without a teaching record: 76 posts (13%) mention internships and 59 (10%) mention assistants. We list current kitesurf internships separately on kitesurfOK, and if you have no license yet, start with our guide on how to become a kitesurf instructor before you apply anywhere.
A second sport is the other lever. Wing foiling appears in 48% of posts, windsurfing in 37% and SUP in 35%. If you can teach one of them, or are training for it, put it near the top of your CV.
A few more things that cost nothing:
- Be available for the whole season, and write the dates down precisely.
- Log every hour you assist or teach, with place and level of the students.
- Answer messages quickly, on the channel the school used.
- Ask a school you have trained with for a short reference, even though few posts ask for one.
Where to look
Resort operators hire several instructors per season, so they appear often in our data. These employers had the most instructor posts since January 2024:
- ROBINSON: 22 posts, 11 still open on 22 October 2026
- Club Med: 15 posts, 8 open
- Kite School Pro Sylt: 11 posts
- Torre Loopa Kite School: 8 posts, 4 open
- Mark Warner: 8 posts, 7 open
On kitesurfOK you can filter our kitesurf instructor jobs by country, accommodation, stated pay, season, sport and IKO or VDWS certification. If you have not decided where to spend your first season, compare the best countries to work as a kitesurf instructor before you send applications everywhere. Apply to a handful of schools that fit, not to every post at once, and keep a note of where you sent what.
Questions to prepare for
Have short, honest answers ready on these points:
- your license level and how many teaching hours you have logged
- the wind range and conditions you can teach in
- how you handle a student in trouble, and how you run a rescue
- the languages you can teach in
- the exact dates you are available
- the second sports you can teach
- whether you can drive a boat
You should also ask your own questions: what the pay is based on, and what housing includes. Check what schools state in their posts in our kitesurf instructor salary overview first, so you know whether an offer is in line.
How we counted
kitesurfOK collects kite and watersports jobs from school career pages, resort operators and job boards such as IKO. The numbers in this article come from the 582 kitesurf instructor posts we listed between 1 January 2024 and 22 October 2026, 140 of which were still open on 22 October 2026. A post counts as mentioning something when its text names it. The hiring calendar uses the date we first saw each post and covers the 237 instructor posts from 2025, the last full year. We did not survey employers, so a school that wants something without writing it down does not show up here.
