Kitesurf Instructor Salary 2026: What Kite Schools Actually Pay

Max Fischer··

A kitesurf instructor salary is usually paid per teaching hour: in the job posts we list, most kite schools that state a rate pay between €20 and €30 an hour, and only a few pay a fixed monthly wage.

What kite schools pay per hour

These 14 posts state an hourly rate for teaching.

The median is about €23 per teaching hour. Of the 14 rates, 9 sit fully between €20 and €30, and 3 more overlap that band. Only Florida sits clearly above it, at $40 to $50.

Your license level counts too. Endless Summer pays an IKO assistant €25 and an IKO instructor €30 an hour, and our guide on how to become a kitesurf instructor covers the step up.

What a month of teaching adds up to

Pay is per teaching hour, not per hour on the beach, and teaching hours depend on wind and bookings. Kukulkite names about 20 hours a week at $25. By our calculation, not the school's, that is about $2,150 a month before tax.

Some schools pay a monthly wage or commission instead:

OGO Kite Academy, LimassolCypruscommission, €1,500-3,000 a monthschool carOct 2026

A fixed wage does not drop in a week without wind. Commission moves with bookings.

The only German monthly wage in our data, €1,500 for an entry-level VDWS surf instructor at Zingst, sits below our West estimate further down. FLY-A-KITE on Rügen, a commission school, reports around €1,600 net a month. Our list of kite instructor jobs in Germany shows who is hiring.

Head instructor and school manager pay

These are single posts, not averages:

  • BLOW Surf & Kite, The Hague: head instructor from €22 an hour with 100 hours a month guaranteed, around €2,500 a month (October 2026).
  • BLOW Surf & Kite: kite school manager around €3,000 a month plus commission, 40 hours in 4 days (October 2026).
  • Hawa Safaga, Egypt: center manager €700 a month fixed, up to €1,000 with extra teaching (October 2025).
  • Surf Connect Australia, near Brisbane: school manager and instructors from AU$100 an hour plus 20% sales commission (December 2024), the highest rate we have seen.

For BLOW's head instructor, 100 guaranteed hours a month protect pay in a week without wind.

Accommodation, food and other extras

Of the 582 instructor posts we listed since January 2024, 352 (60%) mention accommodation, 121 (21%) food or meals and 11 (2%) flights. Of the 140 still open on 22 October 2026, 70 (50%) mention accommodation, and our page of jobs abroad with accommodation collects open posts with housing for instructors and other roles.

Where housing costs money: ION Club Golf de Roses in Spain charged €200 a month for a bed in the staff house (2025 and 2026 posts). Mainpeak Wing in Portugal arranged accommodation for €15 a day (2026). Ventaigua pays $5 less per hour when accommodation is included.

The best paid countries rarely house you. Only 2 of 16 instructor posts in the USA and 2 of 14 in Australia mention accommodation, against 21 of 26 in Portugal and 8 of 8 in Kenya. Weigh rent against rate when you compare the best countries to work as a kitesurf instructor for your next season.

Why most posts don't state pay

Only 12 of the 227 jobs open on 22 October 2026 state any pay (5%). Posts do not say why. The rates above vary with lesson type, license level, experience and housing. When a post states nothing, job cards on kitesurfOK show our estimate with a ~, taken from this table:

How to read a kite job offer

Before you accept, check:

  • Is the rate per teaching hour or per hour on duty?
  • Are any hours guaranteed?
  • Is part of the pay commission, and on what?
  • What does accommodation cost?
  • Is there a contract with social security? KTS in Sicily writes "registered with social security".
  • Who helps with the work permit? H2O Extreme provides one, Accrokite offers help, and KITEFLIP did in 2024.
  • How long is the season?

On kitesurfOK you can narrow the kitesurf instructor jobs to posts with stated pay. If this is your first season, our guide to your first kitesurf instructor job covers when to apply and what to send.

How we counted

kitesurfOK collects kite and watersports jobs from school career pages, resort operators and job boards such as IKO. For this article we read every post we listed between January 2024 and 22 October 2026 that states a pay figure for teaching or running a kite school, and quoted the figures as the employers wrote them. Euro values for other currencies use autumn 2026 rates ($1 = €0.86, 1 THB = €0.026). The estimates in the last table are ours: job cards on kitesurfOK show them with a ~ when a post does not state pay.
